Claim your profileMatt Vasilogambros is a senior writer at States United Democracy Center, a nonpartisan organization that defends state and local election officials and the rule of law. He previously covered voting rights for Stateline, which is part of the States Newsroom national network of nonprofit newsrooms. He was a finalist for the 2021 Toner Prizes for Excellence in Political Reporting for his analysis of polling place access in a joint project with the Center for Public Integrity. Before joining Stateline, he was a writer and editor at The Atlantic, where he covered national politics and changing demographics. Previously, he was the lead reporter on income inequality at National Journal, having spent years covering the White House, elections and foreign policy. He has also written for Outside and Backpacker magazines, and appeared on NPR and MSNBC. In 2017, he completed the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada. He is a cum laude graduate of Drake University, where he served as the award-winning editor of the student newspaper. He is a native of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
