Her book, "Silent Snow: The Slow Poisoning of the Arctic," published by Grove-Atlantic, was a finalist in a national science writing award. She is a Pew Fellow in Marine Conservation, a lifetime honor usually reserved for scientists. She has taught at the University of California, Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, where she was the first Hewlett Foundation fellow for environmental journalism.
