Maria Armental covers private equity for The Wall Street Journal, with a focus on tech and health. She chronicles the influential and singular personalities behind it all. Before joining The Journal, Maria was a reporter for The Providence Journal, Rhode Island’s leading newspaper. An award-winning journalist, Maria previously wrote about financial crime, corporate and regulatory matters, politics, the environment and immigration. She thrives under pressure, breaking down complex stories on deadline with an eye for extraordinary in the ordinary. She studied journalism and computer programming when many didn't see a place for strings of zeroes and ones in journalism. A top Providence Journal editor wrote of her “incredible tenacity” in nominating her for a Sigma Delta Chi award. And a Rutgers University professor recommended her as “an incisive thinker” who “I can say without reservation will make a significant impact, probably on all of us.” A native Spanish speaker, Maria reads, writes and interviews in Portuguese and French and reads Italian. She holds a master’s degree from Rutgers University’s Division of Global Affairs, where she researched political economy, identity and global governance.
