«Nothing is more stunning than the simple truth»: This quote from Egon Erwin Kisch, the famous "raging reporter" from the last century, pretty much sums up the motivation for my work. I write, I film, I do radio and take photographs as well. But most of all, I am looking for that stunning, simple truth by meeting and talking to people, sometimes travelling long ways to get to them. I have been a freelance reporter since I left Germany (and German Television) in 2004. After seven years in Africa, I am currently reporting on the United Nations and the more than 200 international organizations based in Geneva. I have written numerous books on issues like djihadism in Africa, the state of Somalia, separatist movements or utopian dreams. While I mostly work alone from a beautiful office in the Palais des Nations, I share a virtual office with 50 colleagues of Weltreporter, a global network of freelance correspondents like me.
