Claim your profileKim Gamel is a versatile correspondent and senior editor with extensive experience covering some of the biggest stories in the Middle East, Asia and Europe. She moved to Hawaii during the pandemic to help lead an innovative nonprofit news site, Honolulu Civil Beat, focusing on accountability and watchdog stories. Past assignments include Seoul, Stockholm, Cairo, Baghdad, Kabul, New Delhi and New York. Kim began her career at an English-language newspaper in Moscow. A native of Idaho, she majored in Russian at Bates College and holds a master's degree from the Medill School of Journalism. She was a Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan from 2014-15.
