As a journalist that has led me to roles writing about politics, crime, court, and experiencing and covering natural disasters. I have worked in Sydney, Canberra, the UK, New Zealand and am currently a court reporter in Melbourne. I also have experience filing video and photos. My work has included covering major breaking international news stories, including world leader summits, the aftermath of a 7.8 magnitude earthquake I experienced in New Zealand, terrorist attacks in Melbourne, Sydney and Christchurch, an inquest into the downing of flight MH17, the secret trial of Cardinal George Pell for child sexual abuse, Novak Djokovic's fight against deportation ahead of the Australian Open, royal commissions and online courts during the COVID-19 pandemic.I've travelled to around 40 countries and plans to see many more. Highlights include attending a royal garden party at Holyrood Palace in Scotland, trying my hand at urban exploring in an abandoned amusement park in Myanmar, hiking among volcanos on New Zealand's Tongariro crossing, snaking across Siberia on the Trans Mongolian Railway and learning the value of a tetanus booster while wading toward the Nan Madol ruins in Micronesia.I have a Bachelor of Communications (Journalism) and a Bachelor of Laws. Both have been achieved while continuing to work full-time. I was admitted as an Australian lawyer in the Victorian Supreme Court in June 2023.Twitter: @karenlsweeneyEmail: ksweeney@aap.com.au
