Previously, he was a reporter and researcher for The New York Times covering China and technology. Before that, he worked as a freelance journalist covering Myanmar and Taiwan for various international media outlets, including Nikkei Asia, Al Jazeera, Foreign Policy, the UK's Telegraph, the Diplomat, and Chinese-languaged media Initium and The Reporter. He started his career as a reporter for the Myanmar Times based in Yangon.
