After hearing rumblings early on a Sunday morning that there had been a shooting at Reformation Lutheran Church, I connected the dots that this was the longtime congregation that Tiller had attended. I immediately went to work, working numerous police sources who would only give me vague information. Finally, after confirming facts through multiple sources, I broke in within an hour of the shooting and reported that Tiller had been killed and that police were searching for a suspect vehicle. Another hour later, my sources confirmed again to me that state troopers had detained the suspect on the Kansas Turnpike northeast of Wichita. Also broke the story in July, 2004, that Wichita serial killer BTK had left a letter for police at the Wichita Public Library.
