Claim your profileJan Cienski is Senior Policy Editor at POLITICOEurope overseeing reporters covering defense and transport, as well as occasionally commenting on Polish politics. He is also author of "Start-Up Poland: The People who Transformed an Economy." In 2015, he was Poland correspondent for The Economist and editor of the Central European Financial Observer. From 2003-2014, he was the Warsaw bureau chief of the Financial Times. Prior to that he spent five years as the Washington correspondent for Canada's National Post. He also spent several years in the United States working for The Associated Press. From 1992 to 1995 he worked in Moscow for the German News Agency DPA, and was also a freelancer in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He got his start as a reporter working in Warsaw for United Press International in 1989 and 1990. He was born in South Africa in 1965 and later lived in Canada, where he received a degree in international relations from the University of Toronto.
