I work every day to help good journalism find a larger audience. I find and hire smart, hard-working, passionate, decent, diverse people and set up a structure where everyone communicates and knows the big picture, so the best ideas, regardless of hierarchy, can be listened to and acted upon. I try to set high expectations and clear goals, hold regular post-mortems where we go through our return on investment and do cost-benefit analysis and self-audits. I believe a team should like and learn from each other, hear directly from key stakeholders, understand the numbers and the audience and be held accountable. My team’s strong journalism has been recognized with more than 100 local, national and international awards. We've won a global media award for Best Idea to Grow Digital Readership or Engagement, and were a global finalist for Best Use of Social Media. We also worked on a year-long special investigation that was named a Pulitzer Prize Finalist in Public Service, with a special citation for digital tools.
