Her portfolio includes leadership or contributions supporting hundreds of news stories, a sampling of which can be seen at her personal website: www.hannahdormido.com. She is the current President of the North American Cartographic Information Society, serving the 4-year Presidential track. Ms. Dormido currently serves as Graphics Reporter and Cartographer at The Washington Post. Prior to this role, Ms. Dormido coordinated a team of data journalists at Bloomberg News Asia Headquarters in Hong Kong—where she liaised with bureaus across Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America to build in-depth, award-winning, data-driven news stories and infographics. Her multi-disciplinary skills reflect the fast-paced news ecosystem in which she thrives, and include news writing, feature writing, story conception and execution, and a full suite of data visualization capabilities. Ms. Dormido also plays a hands-on editorial and management role, originating story ideas as well as shaping news coverage, reporting angles, and day-to-day project planning, guidance, team leadership, and execution. Ms. Dormido is a resident expert in QGIS and cartography, and regularly leverages these talents in her reporting, as well as keynote speaking engagements at leading industry conferences. Her stories span international politics, financial deal flows, monetary system reforms, global elections, and science and technology. She has also conceived and led detailed, feature-length stories regarding space exploration and climate change, as well as more human-centered themes (touching on human rights and natural disasters). Her stories are often among the most viewed (by readership metrics) at the global news organizations where she’s worked. Ms. Dormido grew up in a small town, graduated early with distinction, and earned her degree from UP Diliman: the top-ranked university in the Philippines. She then ascended to the FT, then Bloomberg News, and most recently to The Washington Post. Her personal journey and diverse professional background give her work a distinct sensibility: one informed by the daily struggles of the developing world, yet also engaged with (and working within) elite contexts and themes. Ms. Dormido enjoys travel and photography, speaks multiple languages, and unwinds by making hand-drawn maps and hiking. She is a proud parent to a Scottish Fold cat rescued from the SPCA Hong Kong.
