Dr.
Bonn, Germany
For the last 10 years I was executive director of the ISC global science programme on Urban Health and Wellbeing. Together with a group of interdisciplinary researchers we tried to move the urban health field out of the health domain and more into the urban planning domain and to match the health sciences with the new science of cities. The point of that is that if we only focus on the health of urban residents, we overlook the health of the city as a complex living system - which can provide health and wellbeing for it's residents at the expense of the environment outside of urban boundaries. Before engaging with the urban health topic, I did research on conservation and use of forest ecosystems. Mainly in Subsaharan Africa, Asia, and SE Asia. Currently I am fellow at the Center for Development Research, University of Bonn.
