Claim your profileA writer at the Globe and Mail since 1997, I am a six-time winner of the National Newspaper Award and a previous finalist of the Michener Award for Public Service Journalism. I write long form features for the Globe and Mail, currently covering social issues, philosophy and sociology, and mental health - and the occasional dog (or octopus) story. I am particularly interested in how we can create stronger, kinder and more inclusive societies. I am a member of the Globe's Ottawa bureau. While I love life in Canada's capital city, I am a Nova Scotian at heart, and look forward to returning home for good some day.
