Claim your profileDon Hladiuk is a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS-SGRC). In addition to being an Earth Scientist, he is also a freelance contributor covering space science stories. He can be heard monthly on the CBC morning show the Calgary EyeOpener (since 1984). He is also an enrichment lecturer for the Road Scholar “Astronomy Above the Arctic Circle” programme. Don is always willing to share his passion for astronomy and space exploration. His travels include many trips to Cape Canaveral, Florida where he has photographed numerous rocket launches. He has also travelled the globe chasing total solar eclipses, Northern Lights, Halley’s Comet, Venus Transits and other astronomical events. Don has published photos and stories in various astronomy and space flight magazines. He also shares his photos and sky updates on Bluesky and “X” (formerly Twitter) under @astrogeo and on Instagram and YouTube (astrogeol). He volunteers at public astronomical events and has Asteroid 73704 named after him to acknowledge his contributions in public education. Don is based out of Calgary, Alberta.
