I write a column for the New York Times called Fixes with Tina Rosenberg (www.nytimes.com/fixes). It examines solutions to social problems and how they work. Please let us know what you think -- and send ideas our way. I'm also completing a book about social innovation in the U.S. and Canada, looking to highlight key patterns and areas of opportunity. Books: From 1999-2004, I wrote 'How To Change The World: Social Entrepreneurs and The Power of New Ideas,' which has been published in 21 countries. This book explores how social problems are being addressed in several countries in North America, South America, Africa and Asia. The book highlights the work of several Ashoka Fellows by way of explaining what social entrepreneurs do, why they are important, and how the emergence of this 'field' is influencing the world. From 1997-1998, I worked as a co-writer on a PBS Documentary Series, To Our Credit, which focused on anti-poverty programs involved in micro-finance in Bangladesh, India, South Africa, Bolivia and the U.S. From 1992-1996, I authored the book 'The Price Of A Dream: The Story Of The Grameen Bank' which tells the story of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Grameen Bank, and its founder Muhammad Yunus, and the worldwide spread of “micro-finance.” The book was researched over a five-year period that included 11 months in Bangladesh. It interweaves stories of villagers with the story of Yunus's efforts to build the bank. Other jobs include consulting for the United Nations Development Program, reporting for New York Newsday, working as a computer systems analyst and database programmer, and being a pizza chef. Specialties: Reporting on people who are engaged in serious problem solving vis a vis big problems, explaining complex ideas in engaging terms, blending narrative and analysis, listening with undivided attention.
