Claim your profileI am an editor, writer and broadcaster with more than a decade’s experience using music and pop culture as conduits for empathetic storytelling. Essays and essayists are my specialty, but I’m at home wherever I can help great thinkers use the art they love to say what they otherwise couldn’t. I was born and raised in New York City and currently live in Washington, D.C.Since 2011 I have been on staff at NPR Music — a multi-platform team of journalists and critics inside National Public Radio — where I assign and edit criticism, interviews and reporting. I also work with NPR’s news programs and podcasts, whom I help turn audio stories into good internet. I created the music team's first style guide in 2018, and co-wrote its first pitching guide for freelancers in 2022.My bylined work includes cultural essays, memoir, reviews and longform conversations with artists and other creators. As a commentator, I’ve been a panelist on NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour, guest-hosted All Songs Considered and spoken at the MoPOP Pop Conference and the Future of Music Summit. For love, I make songs in the guitar-pop bands Bad Moves and Art Sorority.
