I have spent the past decade guiding award-winning national magazines across print, web, mobile and social platforms. As the Managing Editor for Partnerships and Custom Media at Nature Research, I am helping to create and build a global custom media business for one of the most esteemed publishers of science and technology. I work with editorial, sales, marketing, and business development teams across SpringerNature to develop new opportunities, events, and print, web, social, and video products. On any given day, I interface with Fortune 500 CEOs, start-up founders, ground-breaking scientists, and venture capital firms. Sometimes I act as a journalist, sometimes as an industry adviser. I’m comfortable wearing a lot of hats, and I bring a unique perspective to every task. I have a background in genomics and molecular biology, and I completed an MBA at NYU’s Stern School of Business, where I studied finance, marketing, media, and entrepreneurship. As a Stern Venture Fellow, I recently helped develop a business plan for a new medical product with applications in neuronal drug delivery and biodefense. As varied as my strengths and interests are, I’m driven in every case by the same thing: What I love and do best is solve big problems with even bigger ideas, and I do so by following a few pretty simple rules:Don’t run from big challenges, embrace them.Form strategy and execute it.Don’t just look at data, draw meaning from it.Listen before asking questions (then listen some more and then answer).Surround yourself with brilliant, kind, driven, creative people who are not afraid to work hard then put it all down at the end of the day -- whenever that might be.
