POLITICO has nearly tripled the size of its industry-leading bureau with new, dedicated coverage in key areas like climate and energy, technology and ballot measures, and grown its reach in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Cadelago works closely with commercial and product colleagues to help increase the publication’s influence on the West Coast. Before taking charge of the operation in 2025, Cadelago was the California bureau chief, serving as the lead politics reporter and helping guide coverage across the Golden State. Based at the Capitol, Cadelago covered elections and political power, from Gavin Newsom to the players in Los Angeles, the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. He contributes stories in POLITICO Magazine. Previously, Cadelago worked in Washington as a White House correspondent covering Joe Biden and Donald Trump. He also was a lead reporter for the presidential campaigns of Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020, and returned to write about Harris in 2024.Before moving to Washington and joining POLITICO in 2018, he worked at The Sacramento Bee in the Capitol bureau, anchored investigations at The San Diego Union-Tribune in Sacramento and wrote about politics for newspapers in San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Cadelago is a San Francisco native and a University of California, Berkeley, graduate.
