Claim your profileI'm a senior reporter at the New Zealand Herald, specialising in general news and features. I like writing about us - how we live, what makes us tick, our triumphs and challenges and, when they tell us something new, stories from our past.I've twice been a finalist in reporting and feature categories in the Voyager Media Awards, but the work I'm most proud of is the conception and leadership of a 6-month project in 2019 showing that 40 years after the Erebus disaster, 257 dead is not just a number. Working alone, I found and spoke with families of almost 150 of those on board flight TE901 so we could tell the stories of these adventurous souls who set off on a big adventure, and never came home.In 2021, I also tracked down the whereabouts - and sometimes dramatic tales of adventure - of the summer Olympic Games’ gold medals Kiwi athletes have brought home since the first, when swimmer Malcolm Champion triumphed as part of the Australasian freestyle relay team in 1912.Other self-generated projects include the #WillSheVote series following a woman who had never voted to the local body polls, the Lives Above/Lives Below feature on the Waterview Tunnel, an as-we-lived-it history of the 2020 lockdown, and an ongoing series following Kiwis trying to buy their first home, which began in 2021.
