Claim your profileAl Henkel has been on the road for NBC News for 3 and a half decades. He is currently the Senior Coordinating Producer for Newsgathering, based in Dallas, Texas.Henkel has won National Emmy Awards for his coverage of the Mexican Drug wars in 2011, the Midwest Floods in 1993, for Hurricane Katrina in 2005, for the devastating Oklahoma Tornadoes in 2013, and for coverage of the 2008 Presidential election night. He also has been awarded 3 Edward R. Murrow awards, a Peabody award, and numerous other national awards for his work. As part of his early tenure at NBC News, Henkel covered the Branch Davidian standoff at Waco, Texas, the bombing of the Oklahoma City Federal Building, the trial and execution of Timothy McVeigh, the Shuttle Columbia Breakup in 2003, the BP Oil Spill along the Gulf Coast in 2010, and natural disasters including wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes. Henkel coordinated NBC's coverage of riots in Ferguson, MO, Baltimore MD, Charlotte, NC, and Minneapolis. MN, as well as the Haiti earthquake in 2010, and several active war zones overseas. He spearheaded coverage of major news events for the past 20 years, including mass shootings and a half dozen Olympic Games.
